It am honoured to lead Howth Sutton Lions Club as its President for the current year.  Howth Sutton Lions has served the local and wider communities in many practical ways over the past 38 years. During that time it has shared over 2.50 m in finance and kind to those in need.  During the past year some 80,000 in monies and food hampers were distributed to a broad range of worthy causes in the area. Our largest single contribution of 10,000in the past year has been made to the construction of a shelter for wives and families fleeing from oppressive home conditions in Malawi.  This year on the basis of the economic conditions, more and more will need our help. Corporate funding is important to the lifeblood of the Club. Environmental concerns is also of great importance to the Club.

Howth Sutton Lions participation in an International Lions project SightFirstII which set a target to raise funds ($200 million) to help combat and eliminate within 20 years all preventable blindness in the poorer countries of the world. The amount collected by the club this campaign was €18,000 thus ranking the Club third in amount in the District.

Diabetes awareness and screening is also undertaken by the club in the local area and a small but significant number of supermarket shoppers were found to have high counts and referred to their GP.

This year the club continues  its efforts to attract and encourage new members to its ranks.  Why not become a Lion and contact us at keanet@indigo.ie
