Galway Championships 2009
The Loughrea Boxing Club had busy weekend at the Galway Championships in the Westside Gym. The club had fifteen boxers competing in the championships. After three days of boxing, seven were declared champions of Galway and will represent Galway at the upcoming Connacht Championships in Westport. The winners were Boy 1 60Kg Tomas Mongan, Boy 3 50Kg Peter Whelan, Boy 4 48Kg Padraic Flanagan, Boy 4 57Kg Ryan Dervan, Youth 1 63Kg Conall Whelan, Youth 1 66Kg Ted Mongan and Youth 2 66Kg Matthew Connelly. Unlucky to lose out due to a hurling injury, was Ciaran Connor, one for the future. He was pitted against son of Olympian Francie Barrett in the final.
