Rathbarry Wood / Long Strand Clonakilty, Co. Cork

Rathbarry Wood is in West Cork and is about 42 kms South-West of  Cork City. It is only 5 kms from Rosscarbery.	Rathbarry Wood is less than 1 km West from the small village of Rathbarry and about 8 kms South-West of Clonakilty.

Directions....Coming from Cork, take the N71 for Bandon and continue on to Clonakilty. Continue on the N71 and head for Rosscarbery. After about 6 kms, look for the R598 on the left which goes to Rathbarry village. As you can see from the map above, the R598 is a loop road so if you miss the first turn off, you can always take the 2nd one. See the map above.

If the event is on the Long Strand beach, just take the road to the coast from Rathbarry and turn left. Long Strand is about 2 kms long and has a complex series of  sand dunes behind the beach.
As always, look for Red & White direction markers on the day.

Note that the black dot on the map shows the location of Castlefreke castle. Although it is not accessible to the public, it is very impressive as seen from the minor road that goes towards the coast. If the weather is nice and you have time, have a look at the quaint village of Rathbarry which was the County winner of the Tidy Towns competition as few years ago.
