A Reader Review
This book can change your life, February 19, 2000
Reviewer: Louise DeSalvo (see more about me
at Amazon.com) from New
Jersey
I've written a book about asthma; thought I knew
everything. And then I bought this book. Started the five
day program with great cynicism. Let me say I've not had
a day free from symptoms from a case diagnosed as "moderately
severe" asthma for five years. After doing the
program, stringently, and following the guidelines (except
for the diet -- I only cut out milk products) -- I have
no post-nasal drip; don't feel as if I'm drowning; sleep
magnificently; have no shortness of breath, or tightness
in my chest, and have more energy. I started to
experience positive results the first day. Frankly, I
don't feel I "have" asthma anymore, though I do
take inhaled corticosteroids, at a very reduced rate. If
you are disciplined, and if you're willing to invest
time, read this book. It's the better of the two books
available on this method. I listened to music or read in
the intervals between doing the controlled pause -- a
technique that's taught. The best investment in a self-help
book I've ever made. --This text refers to the

Book Description
Imagine:
Sleeping through the night soundly and peacefully without
waking up to use an inhaler
Walking into a room filled with cigarette smoke, cats, or
flowering plants and not having an asthma attack
Exercising without gasping for breath
Finally--a real ray
of hope for asthma sufferers!
At last, there's the
Breath Connection, a groundbreaking asthma treatment that
has a proven 100 percent success rate in alleviating
symptoms in patients and an extraordinary 90 percent
success rate in decreasing and even eliminating
dependence on inhalers, nebulizers, and other drugs
forever! Simply by learning how to retrain their
breathing patterns, asthmatics can learn how to calm the
worst asthma attacks and even stop them before they begin.
Asthma has reached epidemic proportions in the United
States. Fifteen million Americans suffer with asthma, and
more cases are diagnosed every day. Traditional medicine
can control all but the worst symptoms of this crippling
disease, but there is no sign of a cure. Until recently
the Breath Connection program was available only in
London at the renowned Hale Clinic, where it has helped
hundreds of thousands of sufferers alleviate even the
worst symptoms of asthma. Now with the publication of
Freedom from Asthma, millions of Americans will finally
be able to seek relief from this crippling disease.
About the Author
Alexander Stalmatski studied in Russia under
Professor Konstantin Buteyko, the doctor who created the
Breath Connection program. He now lives in London, where
he teaches the Breath Connection at the Hale Clinic.

Asthma kills 6,000 people a year. Respiratory illnesses
affect millions more. According to Teresa Hale,
asthmatics and others with respiratory illnesses are
breathing wrong. "We have been led to believe that
deep breathing is good for us because it increases our
oxygen intake. In fact, the reverse is true. The more we
breathe, the less oxygen actually reaches the cells of
our bodies," says Hale in Breathing Free: The
Revolutionary 5-Day Programme to Heal Asthma, Emphysema,
Bronchitis, and Other Respiratory Ailments. Her
breathing programme, Breath Connection, teaches you to
change your breathing patterns so that you won't need to
wheeze, breathe heavily, or take gulps of air after
exertion. Hale promises that five days on this programme
will reduce your need for medications and regular
practice often increases metabolism and leads to weight
loss.
Breathing Free
gives a self-test to assess your breathing and teaches
several techniques to improve it. Hale explains how to
adapt the program for mild, moderate, or severe asthma,
emphysema, bronchitis, panic attacks, general health and
children with asthma. She also suggests dietary
guidelines.
Hale's programme is
based on the work of Konstantin Buteyko of the former
Soviet Union. It is easy to understand, but will take
time and effort to master. But Hale says you have a
choice: "Stay where you are, with your daydreams and
your deteriorating health, or take control and make some
effort to effect permanent change." Hale founded
Britain's renowned Hale Clinic, whose clients have
included Princess Diana, the Duchess of York, Tina
Turner, Richard Gere and Arnold Schwarzenegger. --Joan

Synopsis
The observations of a Russian doctor, Konstantin Buteyko,
suggest that breathing patterns are fundamental to the
natural and effective treatment of asthma. Buteyko
believes that only shallow breathing, which increases the
proportion of carbon dioxide in our systems, enables the
body to function efficiently. The first clinical trial of
Buteyko's controversial treatment, conducted in
Australia, showed that 90 per cent of asthma sufferers
were able significantly to reduce their dependence on
medication. Alexander Stalmatski worked with Buteyko in
Russia, and then practised the Buteyko Technique in
Australia and England. In this book he explains the
physiology behind the theory, describes how the Buteyko
method works, and provides simple self-help exercises for
asthma sufferers who wish to treat themselves. This
revised edition incorporates recent discoveries and
experiences.
A Reader Review
A treatment that really works, 15 February, 2001
Reviewer: (anne@mindbodydynamics.co.uk) from U.K
This book could change your life! The methods it
describes are not only applicable to asthmatics: anyone
who suffers from a range of chronic problems; sinusitis,
chronic fatigue, emphysema, low immunity among others,
would benefit from learning this method. Inevitably this
book is only an introduction. Although the technique can
be followed from a book it is much more efficaceous if
studied with a practitioner - ...Read it. Try the course.

Book Description
A safe, natural, longterm solution to insomnia in
five dayswithout drugs.
From the Publisher
Everyone has a bad nights sleep once in a while,
but nearly one in three adults will suffer from prolonged
insomnia at some stage in their lives. Sleeping pills may
be recommended during a shortterm crisis, and you
can help yourself by not eating rich foods late at night,
exercising regularly, and practicing relaxation
techniques. But according to the Buteyko Methodused
as a drugfree treatment for asthma and now better
known as Breath Connectionsleep problems are caused
by the alltoocommon phenomenon of overbreathing.
Freedom from Insomnia shows how a simple course of
exercises can teach sufferers to control their breathing
and bring sound sleep to the most chronic of insomniacs.
Alexander Stalmatski, author of Freedom from Asthma,
is based at the Hale Clinic in London.

Book Description
The Breathology Programme teaches the Buteyko method,
which has been clinically tried, tested and proven in
Australia and Russia. It is the first holistic programme
of its kind that brings together Buteyko breathing
techniques with all other factors that are known to
affect breathing health, such as diet and nutrition, for
example. What is so good about this educational programme
is that it empowers people to overcome, rather than
succumb, to asthma symptoms; allowing them to be less
dependent on doctors and medication.
From the Author
Asthma is a distressing lifestyle that holds millions of
people captive to the idea that symptom control is best
achieved with drugs. It is a myth perpetrated by a
medical industry that can only profit from you being sick.
To crack the myth you simply need to know what is true
and then test it experientially for yourself. You do not
need your doctor's permission to make yourself better!
Our own personal experience of healing chronic asthma
after thirty years of continuous medication and our
commitment to making this information, which includes the
amazingly successful Buteyko method, available worldwide
has culminated in the Breathology Programme. An exclusive
online support forum, provided free of charge, allows us
to answer every enquiry, question or message posted, in
