Camphill
Community Greenacres is a small life sharing Community with people with
special needs. We aim to develop the Camphill impulse in the context of
an Irish urban setting. To achieve this, we have set ourselves the goal
of achieving a Sustainable Community. This can be described as an
attempt to integrate the ecological, social, economic and spiritual
aspects of life towards creating a harmonious and inclusive place to
live.
We are living in three houses within walking distance of each other in
south Dublin. Our neighbourhood is a beautiful, peaceful place, yet has
easy access to the cultural life and stimulus of Dublin city
centre. It is near Dundrum and Stillorgan villages, and close
to
The Airfield Trust, Dublins only city farm.
There are plenty of possibilities around us to live life to the full!
Besides the daily running of the households, some of us have jobs in
the wider community. We have an allotment nearby where we grow organic
vegetables and tend the gardens of the 3 houses. We also have a weavery
and drama, music and art workshops. There are many colleges nearby
which offer wonderful opportunities for further education and training.
In Greenacres we try to create a home that encourages each individual
to grow and develop their gifts and discover their hidden talents. Our
Community is still in its pioneering stage and life is therefore very
dynamic. Our vision is to have a constellation of houses in our
neighbourhood, held together by a shared cultural life.
Having
now established some of our houses, we aim to focus next on developing
a public arts center. This would be a place of inclusion and a meeting
point between us and our neighbours.
