Cloonfad, situated where the three counties of Galway,
Mayo and Roscommon meet. It is in fact in County Roscommon. It forms part of
the parish of Kiltullagh with Granlahan and Ballinlough in the Archdioceses of Tuam.
Cloonfad comes from the Irish Cluain fada meaning a long meadow
or bog clearing. (Source:- Genealogy of Ireland) The village is reputed to have been built other
than in the area it was intended. The more likely place is thought
to have been in Lavallyroe where the national school was earmarked
for construction by the bishop of the day. (Source:- Local historian)

Tourism forms a major part of the indigenous economy and for both the
tourist and the local, fishing and shooting, to pick just two, are regular pastimes.
There are rivers and lakes a plenty and locals can
give the best advice where the best fishing can be had. The bog land
and forestry also lends itself towards a healthy supply of wild life
and the shooting season rarely fails to disappoint. The area boasts
of excellent sites to indulge both of these activities.
Although the village is small in geographical terms, the community spirit
and sense of altruism is evident in the manner in which the community
takes pride in its people. We boast three fine pubs on three of the
four corners of the cross roads and here also the healthy competition is apparent
in the carousel movement between premises

The web site could not be more cost effective - its free. If it is to
succeed, its success may well be judged on the efforts of those who contributed
to its contents. The principle in concept is to enlighten, to inform and
to boast of the quality of life in our village.
We can enlarge on the sectors incorporated onto the site and even add new
ones, the extent of which depends on the people of the locality. Should
there be some area of interest which is not yet covered please contact me and as
time goes on we can build on the success of experience and produce an even
better site.
If some information is erroneous, left out or indeed should not
have been included, please do not hesitate getting in touch and all efforts
will be made to correct the error or delete the offending piece.
