THE STORY OF SILAGE

A mower pulled by a tractor cuts the grass.

This man is waiting for the other trailer to be filled.

This man is dropping off his trailer to be filled.

This silage harvester is filling the trailer.

This trailer is full and is heading for the farmyard to be emptied

This trailer is now being emptied.

The loader then flattens the grass and shapes it into a silage pit.

The grass is stored in this silage pit until the farmer needs it for his animals in the winter when the animals are in the slated sheds. He covers it with black polythene and tucks in the edges to prevent air getting at the grass as this would then rot the grass. He also puts tyres on top of the black polythene to weigh it down.
