What the experts have to say about their visit to Dunauley

The Rough Guide to Ireland : "Located just under a mile out along the steep road towards Vaughan's Pass, this very comfortable and welcoming B&B offers some of the most spectacular views in Cork. The excellent breakfast menu includes smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, stewed fruits and Irish cheeses. Rooms with views are slightly more expensive than those without, but are well worth the extra money. |

Extract from New York Times by journalist KIERAN T. O'REILLY:
"And so I began the day with a hearty breakfast of plump pork sausages, bacon, eggs, homemade wheaten bread and golden French pancakes. Rosemary McAuley, the owner of the guesthouse where my wife, Mary, and I were staying, is known not only for the quality of her breakfasts, but also for the accommodations.
...High on a hillside, her modern stucco country house with arched stone entrance, Dunauley, overlooks the roofs of Bantry town and an expanse of greenswarded countryside and Whiddy Island, embraced by Beara and Sheep's Head Peninsulas. The spacious dining room and lounge offers views of Bantry Bay, while our cozy, tastefully appointed bedroom (with bath) looked out on a small rose garden. Guests settled in comfortable armchairs around the fire in the evening to chat or watch TV." For full article on Bantry click here.
Stillwell's Irish Bed & Breakfast Guide 2001 says:
"Enjoy spectacular panoramic views overlooking Bantry Bay, Caha
Mountains, town and islands from very comfortable accommodation in country
house. Town centre 1km. Excellent base for exploring West Cork, Beara
Way and Sheeps Head Way, perfect for walkers. Close to golf and horse riding.
Elsie Dillard & Susan Causin' "Bed & Breakfast Ireland":
"Dúnauley stands in a spectacular position with magnificent views of Bantry Bay and the Caha Mountains. It is located above the town of Bantry in its own garden. Rosemary McAuley is a warm and welcoming host and serves a wonderful breakfast, including freshly squeezed orange juice and drop scones, in the spacious lounge-cum-dining room, which takes full advantage of the view. There are three bedrooms on the ground floor and they are furnished simply and comfortably. There is also a self catering unit available. No smoking. No pets. Upon arriving in Bantry, follow signs for the hospital until you see Dúnauley signposted.
"The Irish Bed & Breakfast Book" - by Frank and Fran Sullivan.
"This modern country house is elegant, and the large, comfortable living room/dining room with fireplace has wraparound bay windows with a most extraordinary panoramic view of all of Bantry Bay and the Beara Peninsula from high atop the hill. The bedrooms are pretty and spacious. One suite of rooms downstairs is available for selfcatering or long rental. All are tastefully decorated in blue, pink and green or apricot. One of the downstairs rom is the honeymoon bedroom. All rooms have tea and coffee-making facilities.
...The breakfast menu also defies description as it excels in most categories, from freshly squuezed orange juice or grapefruit decorated with kiwi fruit, to a trolley of cereals with toppings of raisins and fruit, to omelets with four fillings, or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Brewed coffee and a variety of teas complement the entrées, not to mention the scones and homemade breads. Extraordinary! Fishing, sailing, golf. walks and bantry House are in town 5 minutes away"
