Sin é an uair ... The islanders were angry and started to use "bad" language, Béarla - - English, instead of the Gaelainn i.e. Gaeilge, the Irish or "soft affectionate talk" they had used earlier in the day. Note the word order: a bhí roimhe sin sa lá acu. They had spoken well of the wedding party early in the day now they were berating them. It is interesting how Tomás contrasts the two languages here: Béarla agus Gaeilge. English for anger and Irish for warmth!
