Fáiltíonn Bord na Gaeilge roimh .... Bord na Gaeilge, The Irish language Board, welcomes the statement (ráiteas) of the Minister (Aire) for Education and Science that he is to convene a group of experts (saineolaithe) to investigate (fiosrú a dhéanamh) the reasons (na fáthanna) that results (torthaí) in Irish are weak at ordinary level and foundation level in the Junior Certificate.
NB fáilte + roimh ... We say "Tá fáilte romhat" - - "You are welcome" i.e. literally "There is a welcome before you" Keep roimh - - before in mind when using fáilte or the verb fáiltigh roimh ... Knowing the prepositions to use with each verb (D'inis sé do ... Dúirt sé le ...) and with nouns (Bhí eagla air roimh an madra.- - He was afraid of the dog; Ní raibh suim aige ann - - he was not interested in it.) is one of the secrets of good Irish.
Note these plurals:
saineolaí - - an expert; saineolaithe - - experts
fáth - - a reason, or a cause; na fáthanna - - the reasons.
toradh - - a result, (also a fruit); torthaí - - results.
Note these structures:
le grúpa a thabhairt le chéile - - to (le) bring a group together (convene)
chun fiosrú a dhéanamh - - in order to make an inquiry - - - - two purpose clauses one with le the other chun.
