Tá áthas ar an mBord . . . The Board is pleased also (freisin) that the Minister asserted (dhearbhaigh) that Irish is a central feature of our community heritage and that the learning of Irish should be a central part of the curriculum.
gur appears three times in this sentence: once as the reported speech particle before the verb dhearbhaigh - - gur dhearbhaigh (sé) - - that he asserted;
and twice as the verb an chopail (is) combined with gur - -
gur gné lárnach - - and gur chóir go mbeadh ... The latter has both of the verbs
"to be" (is and bí) in claoninsint or reported speech. The direct speech of the first would be Is cóir go mbeadh ... and of the second Beidh foghlaim na Gaeilge ...
Claoninsint - - Reported Speech/Indirect Speech is another important aspect of Irish grammar which you should learn. It is not difficult. You will find a link here later as the site develops.
