IV. Tree planting for the year 2000  - March 2000
Birch Grove sown during FÁS gardening course! – June 1999
Special effort this year!
One tree sown per pupil. Mostly native trees – Oak, Beech, Ash, etc.
This year as we have so many trees to sow – 50
We got a JCB to dig the holes. (By spade at an hour per hole it would take too long). Took 2 hours to prepare the holes. Took 1 day to plant the trees.
We decided not to stake them as they have good shelter and hopefully when the storms of winter come they will have established themselves.
April 11, 2000
Today we got some trees from Coillte through the Athenry ADC but as we have so much to do we decided to just “foot” them in until October when we will have more time to get them in!

We thank Mr. Conn Walsh, Athenry for very generously presenting us with the trees and we also wish to thank the Athenry Heritage Centre Company’s F.Á.S scheme for up-rooting and delivering them to us.
