According to the meteorologists, the very first Standard Big Game was forecast to be a miserable wet and windy affair, which probably accounted for the under average turnout. In the event the site was sheltered, the rain paid only a fleeting visit, and the temperature was quite comfortable.
Don P
Competitors arriving (and departing) the "car park" rose to the challenge of navigating (sliding) through a sea of turgid brown mud with, as the Beatles once chanted, "a little help from their friends". Dunbrody management cross their hearts and tell us that the next time we visit in May this area will have had a makeover.
As for the shoot - just great! It's always good when the course layers can come up with some shots which stay etched in the memory - an uphill shot with 30 yds of dead ground - an uphill shot to infinity - wee animals in the distance - wee animals at point blank - an unmissable? group 1 - etc.
The course was put together just in time, so some details need addressing. The signage was confusing at times, branches need clearing, and a couple of targets need moving; but these are only minor niggles and did nothing to detract from the enjoyment of the day. Well done Dunbrody.
A final note - Loughcrew Archers would like to thank Eddie for so generously turning his house into what resembled a refugee centre for itinerant archers.
