Crone Wood

Crone Wood is the first walk I ever did - it is an excellent beginners walk, up through some pine woods it emerges above the waterfall at Powerscourt. After that it is a choice of downhill to a pleasant stream for the essential "picnic" or uphill towards Djouce, depending on how ambitious you are.

I went to the stream, and then returned the way I had come. This was a relatively gentle introduction to Hill Walking. I have returned to this walk on a number of occasions, especially when time was short and a longer walk could not be undertaken. It is also a fairly sheltered walk, as much of it is in the woods, so it is a good place to walk if the winds feel like they are straight from the Artic Circle.
