Lives of great men all remind us,
We can make our lives sublime,
And departing, leave behind us,
Footprints on the sands of time.

History in the classroom

This is Mr.Crowley's small class museum in Third class. The artefacts have been collected over a number of years. The children also bring them in. The artefacts are all Irish and help the children discover what life was like in their grandparents time. The children handle, feel, draw and discuss each artefact. The museum is available to all classes in Scoil Mhuire. Items include, flat iron with trivet, box iron, sad iron, last, tilley lamp, cast iron kettle, stone jar or hot water bottle (earthenware), clay pipes, candle holder and snuffer, brownie camera, toaster, 'marble' bottle, bed warmer, old ink wells, pens with nibs, washboard and lots more.
On the wall can be seen the children's display on school life  when their grandparents were young. The children gave the paper a sepia effect by rubbing it with a wet tea bag. Some included photos of their grandparents and they enjoyed the work very much.
