ICTM IRELAND

Irish National Committee for the International Council for Traditional Music

ICTM Ireland is the national committee for the International Council for Traditional Music (ICTM). Our aim is to assist in the study, practice, documentation, preservation and dissemination of traditional music and dance, including folk, popular, classical, urban, and other genres, of Ireland and its Diaspora.

ICTM Ireland is a new society in Irish academia and we held our first Symposium in the University of Limerick on the 22 February 2006. Entitled "A National Ethnomusicology", the event featured a keynote address by Professor Anthony Seeger (Secretary General, International Council for Traditional Music 2001-2005) and presentations by invited speakers who lead a very informative discussion exploring the theoretical and practical scope of the topic which will be further explored in our roundtable discussion.
