Whitechurch (Church of Ireland) Graveyard, Whitechurch,
New Ross, Co. Wexford
Page added Oct 27th 2000
The graveyard in Whitechurch surrounds the old Church of Ireland (Protestant) church, right in the center of the small village of Whitechurch, New Ross, Co. Wexford.
The burial of Roman Catholics such as the Cooneys and their relations, along with very many others, is explained by the fact that very many church sites were 'taken over' by the Protestants after the Reformation. The general conclusion is therefore drawn that, where burial of a Catholic family took place in a Protestant graveyard, the family probably lived in the locality pre-Reformation and continued to use the plot.
