Our School
Welcome to the Webpage of
Kilchreest National School. We are a primary School situated between Gort and Loughrea in South Galway. There are 99 students, both boys and girls, between the ages of 4 and 13, and we have 4 teachers in our school. Our uniform is navy and our school teams colours are red and blue. We play hurling, camogie and football. Our school principal is Mr. Daly.Our School
The philosophy of the school reflects the values of the community the school serves. The school is under the patronage of the Bishop of Galway, and as most of the children are Catholics, the ethos reflects the teaching of the Catholic Church in accordance with the values of the gospel.
The school also aims to help the children to live their lives in accordance with democratic values and to make a useful contribution to society as adults. The holistic development of the child is emphasised.
There is a strong emphasis on the historical, archaeological and cultural heritage of the pupils and the local environment is central to school work in all areas of the cirriculum.
Our school was opened on the first of January 1981. It was established to replace two existing two-teacher schools in Castledaly and Kilchreest. It has four classrooms. We have 99 pupils in our school. Miss Keely was once a pupil in our school now she is a teacher of third and fourth class. Mrs. Kelly and Ms. Cusack are the other teachers of the school. We have won the school championship a few times. The last time we have won it was 1997 we beat Killeeneen in the final.
