Standard transport to travel down the Mekong river from Northern Thailand to Luang Prabang, a cramped two day journey. "Going down the Mekong to the old capital Luang Prabang was an experience. I was advised to take a slow boat the alternative is a long-tail boat a speedboat, which can go at up to 50 mph and often a crash helmet, is supplied. The slow boat takes two days and you stop for the night at a village called Pakben. The boat is long and narrow and holds about 20 people who sit on narrow planks along the sides of the boat." |
