A Fiji villager whose Sunday outfit attracted me
"The women tend to be coarse featured and often large. They have
frizzy black hair, which they wear in a big fuzz around their heads. One
or two were cut very neatly in a way that reminded me of topiary. They
could be made into wonderful shapes! Apparently in former times it was
a sign of status to have a very large hairdo - they wore them very wide.
The women wear bright cotton dresses printed with flowers"
