Rededication of Lourdes Grotto

On Monday 9th December 2002, the day on which the Feast of the Immaculate Conception was celebrated this year, the rebuilt Lourdes Grotto on the Avenue into Mount Argus was Blessed.

After the 10.00 a.m. Mass Fr. Frank Keevins C.P., Rector and Parish Priest, arrived at the Grotto to perform the ceremony, accompanied by many of the faithful participants in morning mass.

The Grotto had been damaged when vandals toppled the statute from its place in the rock and smashed the altar. Little damage was done to the statue but the altar was destroyed. The repaired statue was replaced with new security measures holding it in place. A new altar was design and erected in marble. (see photos).

The grotto had been originally erected in the Marian Year of 1953.
