"Silent Thief" is the debut
album from acclaimed singer/songwriter Ruth Dillon. This new album from
the Origin Records label compromises 11 original tracks and is to be released
on Friday October 8th, 1999. Originally from Clonmel, Ruth is now
based in Galway where she has amassed quite a large following. It was on
her return from Boston in 1989 that Ruth entered the Irish music scene
with the formation of her first band. In the past 10 years she has been
travelling and playing the length and breadth of the country. The past
2 years have been the busiest for Ruth, during which time she has supported
(as a solo performer) such acts as Dolores Keane, Altan, Sharon Shannon,
Francis Black, Ron Sexsmith, Juniper and Sean Tyrell.
It was during a visit to San Francisco that Ruth was approached by John Faulkner and was asked to sing on Dolores Keane's most recent album "Night Owl". As a result she is now a member of Dolores's band which has given Ruth the opportunity to tour extensively throughout Europe and America. Her song writing has drawn the attention of many major artists, most notably Sean Tyrell who recorded her song "One Eye Open" on his most recent album "The Orchard". Sean has said of Ruth, "Great Mind, Great Pen, Great Singer". There has been a growing interest in Ruth's music ever since she was selected to be one of the eight musicians involved in the "Origin.. to boldly go" compilation CD on which 2 of her songs featured. In support of her release of "Silent Thief", Ruth will be undertaking a major nationwide tour.
