Jubilees
of Ordination
Golden Jubilee - Fr. John Corrigan
Silver Jubilee - Fr. Pat Sheridan

On the 30th of April 2005 a Thanksgiving Mass was celebrated on the occasion
of the Golden Jubilee of Priesthood of Father John Corrigan C.P. and of
the Silver Jubilee of Priesthood of Father Pat Sheridan C.P. in the Cathedral
of Christ the King, Gaborone. The celebrant was Rt. Rev. Bishop Boniface
Setlalekgosi, Bishop of Gaborone, who was joined by the Passionists in
Botswana and South Africa. Also present were priests and religious of
the Diocese, representatives from other Churches and members of the Government.
Many of the parishes sent representatives including children who lent
great colour and great joy to the occasion.
The
entrance procession was led by the Bishop, priests and Holy Cross Youth.
There was a wonderful Choir who were a marvellous example of how the Africans
enjoy singing. The welcome speech was given by the Parish chairperson
and coordinator. Bishop Boniface preached the homily and there were speeches
on behalf of Passionists by Fr. Arthur McCann C.P., Regional Superior.
John and Pat said a few words as did Moses Lekanka, chairperson of the
Diocesan Pastoral Council.
A reception was laid on in the Cathedral grounds for all who attended
the ceremony - and don't the Africans know how to cater for crowds! All
in all it was a most enjoyable and memorable day. Fr. John's two sisters
flew out From Dublin, Ireland for the occasion and were grateful and thankful
for the hospitality and generosity shown to them by everyone -- we were
spoiled.
