Use of the Six-Level Mirror (SLM) Points in Acupuncture Therapy: As taught by Dr. Richard Tan, one may treat pain or trauma in a limb, or part of a limb, by the principle of the Six Level Mirror (SLM) Points. For example, one may treat pain in the left scapula by treating the right pelvis, or pain in the right 4th finger by treating the left 4th toe, as in the following relationships:

One must first identify the nearest Channel(s) passing at the centre of the problem. If the problem is along the Arm Taiyin Channel (say at LU05 near the bicipital tendon in the elbow fossa), use the Six Level Relationships to select the nearest corresponding point(s) on the diagonal (contralateral) Leg Taiyin Channel at the knee (SP09), and vice-versa. The SLM Point(s) are always in the same "Six Level Pair" as the affected part. The Six Level Relationships are:

Examples:

(1) For pain at SP01 [Foot Taiyin at medial side of the right big toe], the Mirror Point would be LU11 [on the radial side of the nailbed of the left thumb [Arm Taiyin].

(2) For pain between SI08 and TH10 [between Arm Taiyang & Shaoyang at the point of the right elbow], the Mirror Points would be BL40 and GB33 [between Leg Taiyang & Shaoyang at the left knee].

(3) For pain near left BL60-KI03 [between Leg Taiyang & Shaoyin near the insertion of the Achilles tendon on the heel], the Mirror points would be SI05-HT07 [between Arm Taiyang & Shaoyin on the right wrist]. For other examples, search for SLM in the last (most right-hand) column below.
