Results

The results for competitions are in the format of a Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet. If anyone does not have Microsoft Excel, they can download the free Excel 2003 viewer here, which can be used to view any Excel document without the necessity of having to pay for a product they may not otherwise need. The download is about 10Mb, which will take about 25 minutes on a 56kbps dial up line, or 12 minutes on ISDN. Those of you who have broadband won't even notice! Anyone who still has Windows 98 or older will have to use the Excel 97/2000 viewer which is available here.

When you click on the link, you will be asked whether you want to open the file or save it. If you just want to view the results, click 'Open'.

*Paul Dunne had a target malfunction during his detail (the paper roll broke and no longer advanced). He fired 18 shots with the target in this state and didn't notice the drop in pressure, nor did the Range officer on duty. When it was eventually noticed, he was permitted to fire extra shots at the end of the detail and these were included in his match. Each shooters monitor displays the sound pressure for each shot as it is taken, and the Range control computer also picks up these readings. Where a pressure drop is registered, the shot is highlighted on the range control monitor in various colours depending on the severity of the pressure drop.

I have had a lot of questions regarding the cost of the paper roll that acts as a backer to the targets and provides the aiming mark as well as maintaining even sound pressure within the target measuring chamber. The roll of paper is 40m long and costs €14 a roll. The present setting of the system advances the paper 15mm with each shot. This would mean that 1.2 metres of paper will advance on average during a 60 shot competition giving a cost per competition of  €0.42 per detail per target. This compares very favourably with the ten bull NSRA targets which cost €0.20 each landed, giving a cost per detail of €1.40.

We have experimented with lesser values on the paper advance, but these produced too many errors to be used with any degree of certainty in the accuracy of shot measurement. When you take into account that the radius of the aiming mark is just over 25mm, you will appreciate that there will be at least one shot hole in the paper for every shot taken. Ideally therefore, the paper advance should be >25mm and for National competitions, we may have to make this adjustment. This would increase the cost per detail to €0.70; still a 50% saving.
