Note 8 October 2005: This guide is now an historical document, as other projects have left the writer without time to update it. The position currently is that the parent body of the General Register Office, the Department of Health, is wracked with controversy over inability to provide adequate health care, and massive cost over-runs in computerisation projects. The writer currently has no information on the present state of the Roscommon project to computerise records of births, marriages and deaths, or when they may be available for research via the Internet.
