Concert and Welcome Party

After a long and tiring day travelling we all gather for a welcome party and concert at the Llanina hall. Everyone contributed an act.

First the children from the Llanarth School sang a few Welsh songs for us and about eight children also preformed a Welsh dance which we all really enjoyed. Then after a lovely speech prepared and read to us by children of the Llanarth School.

Mr.Shanahan then said his own speech and got our half of the concert under way. First we started the show with a song on our tin whistles called "Down by the Sally Gardens", then while Carolann was preparing to do her Irish dance, Donna went up and did two taek-won-do patterns , and to everyone’s amazement also broke wood and poor Mr. Shanahan who was holding the wood nearly had a heart attack!!!!!!

When Donna was finished Carolann went up and did an Irish dance which was brilliant! Then Peter did a quiz which really got the crowd going. Then all of 6th class preformed another song called "Blowing in the Wind". After that I preformed my drama piece called "Maddy" a spoiled brat that hated school but really amused the spectators! After I preformed Carolann did another Irish dance "a hornpipe" different to the first one which was a reel. Then Kate preformed a piano piece called "Variations in G" and after a little slip up she had at the start she preformed very well! The next act was John and David showing off their hurling and football skills by blocking each other with the Hurley while striking, soloing with the ball, picking it and also catching it. And then to demonstrate their football skills they hand-passed the ball to each other, kicked it, scooped it and caught it. After that Aaron and Bryan showed off their chess moves but Bryan was the well earned winner beating Aaron in a two move check-mate! Then 5 of the 6th class girls did a play about the conditions of working-class women in Ireland in the early 1900’s. The play was performed by Kate, Carolann, Shauna, Hannah and Sarah, and was preformed really well. Then to finish the show we all (6th class) sang our school song "Nach deas a bheith óg". The concert was then over. After the concert we all stayed in the hall and instructed by one of the Welsh teachers we all attempted Welsh dancing, the same dance that the Welsh children had done for us at the start of the show. And then after an exhausting day and night we all went up to our rooms and went to bed!!(YA RIGHT!!)
