Multi Cultural Night

The intercultural school which was held at St Colmcille’s Boys’ National School on Chapel Lane in Swords was a resounding success. The school which has pupils from 41 different nationalities on its rolls organised a range of activities which reflect the great diversity of cultures in the school. The pupils provided fact files on each of the countries, and each pupil’s photograph was included on a giant map of the world. A multi-media presentation was prepared which provided information on the social history, music and dance of the various countries, and the pupils were given the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge by answering questions which were relayed over the school’s communication system.

In the evening, many of the parents brought samples of their countries’ cuisine to the school, and all present availed of the opportunity to taste the beautiful food which was on display. The pupils and parents presented themselves in the national dress of their countries, and this colourful spectacle was an absolute delight to behold. An Irish dancing exhibition was given by the pupils of the Clinton School of Irish Dancing, and this was received with great acclamation.

Very many congratulations to the very hard-working sub-committee of parents, teachers and ancillary staff which organised the inter-cultural day, and to the pupils who made the entire day so successful.
