Taghmon/Camross Weekly Press Release, 5 July, 1999

Football

Senior footballers lost narrowly 0-10 to 0-8 to Clongeen in the first round relegation playoff at Grantstown on Friday evening.  Taghmon dominated  in the first half but failed to convert all the possession into scores and led by just 0-6 to 0-2.  Especially costly was a goal that to most observers looked perfect, but which was not given.  In the second half Clongeen played much better and outscored Taghmon by 8 points to 2.  Their goalkeeper saved them when pulling off excellent saves to deny Gearóid Kelly and Jason McLoughlin certain goals.  Scorers for Taghmon/Camross were Jason McLoughlin (0-5), Eugene McGee (0-1), Gearóid Kelly (0-1), and Micheál O'Grady (0-1).

Underage Football

The under-10 footballers beat Glynn-Barntown 3-5 to 1-2 in the De Róiste shield losers group.  The under-12 footballers had mixed luck in the championship.  They lost to St James' by three points and Tommy Morrissey suffered a serious injury.  The club wishes Tommy a speedy recovery.  They defeated Horeswood by 3-16 to 0-6 with great scores from S Cadogan, S McLoughlin, M O'Gorman and T Kent.

The under-14 football team had a great win fielding no fewer that 11 under-12 players.  The team beat St James' by 9-16 to 5-9.  Lloyd Colfer scored 6-12 of the total.

The under-11 ground hurlers were unbeaten for the first 3 Saturdays winning all 9 games.
