Taghmon/Camross GAA Notes, Feb. 10, 1999

Junior B Final

Taghmon/Camross was defeated by the minimum 1 point margin by Kilanerin in the county Junior B football final at Hollymount on Saturday (0-8 to 1-4).  The loss was unfortunate after all the effort put in by the squad training in muck and travelling widely for practice matches since the semi-final defeat of Ballyhogue 10 weeks previously.  The scorers for Taghmon/Camross were John Roche (1-0), Robbie O’Callaghan (0-2), Ger Power (0-1), and Eugene McGee (0-1).

At a reception for the team afterwards Ger Kelly was presented with the man of the match award.  Team captain Daragh Kelly pointed out that the match was only a game and paled into insignificance in comparison to the tragic event that happened last weekend when John Murphy, the father in law of wing forward, Derek Kent, was killed in a tragic accident.  The club extends its condolences to the family of the bereaved.  Chairman Denis Nolan and secretary and team selector, Aindreas Ryan, praised the team for their efforts.

The club congratulates Kilanerin for the win and wishes them the best of luck in next years Junior A championship.  The club congratulates the Shelmaliers club for the fine condition of the pitch for Saturday’s game.  But we must question the decision by the county board to hold such an important match for which both squads of players had trained so hard at a venue without a perimeter fence.  The continuous incursion of the large crowd onto the pitch was a serious distraction for the players.

At the lotto draw last Wednesday the winning numbers were 2-11-17-27.   The jackpot was not won.  There were 23 match 3 winners who each receive £10.  The next draw takes place next Wednesday (February 17) in Paddy Murphy’s, Greenacres.  The jackpot is £2,300.
