Football

Taghmon/Camross recorded its first win in Premier A of the ACFL with a narrow 2-5 to 1-7 win over Gusserane in Taghmon on Sunday evening. Taghmon had the slight benefit of a crosswind in the first half, but some wayward shooting due in no small part to the wind left the score at half time, 1-4 to 0-4. In the second half Taghmon continued to dominate for long stretches and added several scores. The highlight was a well-taken goal by Micheál O'Grady after a lovely pass from Jason Delaney. However, Gusserane struck back almost immediately with a goal by Eamonn Whelan. Late on Eamonn Whelan was sent off for an off the ball striking incident and so was not available to take a last minute penalty won by Gusserane who now were only one point in arrears. The subsequent kick went narrowly wide. Taghmon held onto the one point lead during 5 minutes of injury time. The scorers for Taghmon/Camross were Malcolm McLoughlan (1-0), Micheál O'Grady (1-0), Jason McLoughlan (0-2), Bernard O'Gorman, Jimmy Doran, and Robbie O'Callaghan (0-1). Michael O'Sullivan, Jimmy Doran and Martin Hogan played well in the backs. Eoin O'Gorman played well in a new position in the middle of the field. Of the forwards Bernard O'Gorman, Jason Delaney and Malcolm McLoughlan were the best. For Gusserane the scorers were Eamonn Whelan (1-2), Shay Keevans (0-4), and Seamie Ryan (0-1). John Roche, Shay Keevans and Eamonn Whelan were best for Gusserane.

The Junior Footballers had a facile victory over Kilmore B by 1-13 to 0-6 on Saturday evening in Taghmon. At half time the score was 1-9 to 0-1 and in the second half Taghmon made many changes. The scorers were Derek Kent (0-3), Malcolm McLoughlan (0-3), Jaimie O'Hanlon (0-3), Declan Clark (1-0), Jonathon Waters (0-2), Nicky Cousins (0-2).
