Taghmon/Camross GAA Club Notes, 11 December 2000
AGM
The AGM took place on Sunday December 10 in the Community centre. Outgoing treasurer Eoin O'Gorman presented his last set of accounts. The accounts were detailed and well presented and Eoin was complimented by all for his fine job for the last few years. The club is well positioned financially, although vigorous fund-raising efforts will be needed to service the debt for the club's recent development. Eoin thanked all who had helped during the year, in particular Suzanne Murphy for her work on the county development draw.
Chairman Denis Nolan addressed the meeting. He praised the minor footballers and juvenile ladies for winning county titles. He said that there is enough talent in the club to win the Intermediate football title, although more pride is needed from the players. He thanked Eoin O'Gorman for his efforts and Bridie Doyle for her efforts as secretary during a busy year for herself. He will end his long tenure as chairman next year.
County Bord na nÓg chairman Michael Stafford took the chair for the election of officers. He praised the efforts of the club administration over the last few years. Frs. McCormack and Brennan, Bridget Molloy and Paddy Fanning were returned as presidents of the club. Denis Nolan was returned as chairman; Derek Kent, vice-chairman; Bridie Doyle, secretary; Mary Waters, assistant secretary; Mai O'Sullivan, Treasurer; Margaret Nolan, assistant treasurer; Ulick Stafford, PRO; Paddy Nolan, Park and Complex Committee chairman; George O'Connor, Bar Manager; Billy Nolan, Lotto Organiser; Ann Hannon, Bingo Organiser; Jim Morrissey, Membership Officer; Tom O'Gorman, Insurance Officer; Denis Nolan, County Board Representative; Seán McGee, New Ross district representative; Ger Kelly and John Waters, committee members at large. The appointment of a development officer was deferred until the position is defined. Another committee member will be nominated by the players.
Prior to the election of team managers a motion was put to the floor by Andy Doyle that one manager each be appointed for football and one for hurling. Each manager would be responsible for first and second teams. A second motion was put by John Waters that separate managers be appointed for junior teams. The second motion was carried. Managers were then elected as follows. Intermediate Football, Barry McGrath; Junior Football, Barry McGrath; U-21 Hurling, Jim Doyle; Intermediate Hurling, John Waters; Junior Hurling, Denis Nolan; U-21 Hurling, Michael O'Sullivan. Managers will appoint their own selectors.
Delegates were appointed to the county convention and the club's position for each vote was decided. During AOB Paddy O'Gorman asked the club to establish a committee for Scór to help revive this competition. Pat O'Callaghan, Diarmuid Buttimer and Breda Banville volunteered. A question was asked about the provision of a gymnasium. Denis Nolan responded that it would cost £20-25k for equipment. The new management committee will address the issue. Other questions were asked about the provision of other equipment for the centre. Each of these will be investigated on their own merits and costs. Paddy Nolan on behalf of the meeting thanked Noel and Eoin O'Gorman, who are both stepping down from the committee, for their efforts over the years.
The membership subscription for next year is unchanged at £20, £30 for family membership and £5 for students.
