Intermediate Hurling

The intermediate hurlers lost narrowly by 2-7 to 2-5 to Liam Mellows in the intermediate hurling relegation semi-final replay on Saturday afternoon in Monageer.  The defeat was heart-breaking because Camross had led by 6 points for much of the second half until 2 sloppy goals, one of them a possible square ball allowed the Coolgreany men to take the advantage.  Indeed, Taghmon seemed to get the worse of many decisions with frees much more easily won by their opponents.  Nonetheless, there were chances that could have been taken to win the match, which makes this defeat so much harder to take.  Camross got the best of all possible starts with a superb goal by Martin Coady and led by 1-2 to 0-3 at half time.  Early in second half a brilliant goal by Eoin Lacey and points by Nicky Cousins and Robbie O’Callaghan put Taghmon into a commanding 6 point lead.  Jonathon Waters was brilliant and cleared most balls from a deep midfield position.  However, persistent Liam Mellows’ pressure aided by free after free allowed the North County men to take the advantage late on.  The scorers were Eoin Lacey (1-1), Martin Coady (1-0), Nicolas Cousins (0-2), Robbie O’Callaghan (0-2, frees).  The match was marred by yet another visit to Casualty at Wexford General when Michael O’Sullivan suffered a broken arm.  The team now play Geraldine O’Hanrahans in the relegation final.
