Taghmon/Camross GAA Club Notes, 2 October 2000

Hurling

The hurling season continues for the intermediate and junior hurlers. The intermediate hurlers were defeated by Ballyfad in a first-round intermediate relegation match played in wet conditions in Ferns on Sunday morning by a score of 4-7 to 2-5. Ballyfad led by 2-3 to 0-4 at half-time. Most of this lead was reduced within a minute of the restart when the ever lively Nicky Cousins scored a great goal. However within another few minutes the match was effectively over when Ballyfad scored 2 goals. Martin Cody gave Taghmon hope with a well-taken goal midway through the half. However, in the difficult conditions getting enough scores was always going to be difficult. The scorers were Nicky Cousins (1-1), Martin Cody (1-0), Robbie O'Callaghan (0-3), Adrian Morrissey (0-1).

The juniors play Clongeen in Grantstown in the final of Division 2D at 1:15 pm on Saturday afternoon. The New Ross district junior championship match is the following weekend against Gusserane.

Race Night

The club is holding a race night in the community centre on Friday October 13. This is one week earlier than originally advertised. Horses cost £10 each and are available from committee members. Anyone interested in sponsoring a race or taking an advertisement in the racecard should contact any committee member.
