Taghmon/Camross GAA Club Notes, 30 October 2000

Intermediate Hurling

The intermediate hurlers drew with Liam Mellows on Saturday afternoon in Monageer in a hard fought match played in difficult conditions by 1-8 to 0-11.  Camross started brightly against the wind but failed to convert possession to scores and it was Liam Mellow’s who opened the scoring.  They then made the best of the elements and opened a 5 point lead.  However, Taghmon thanks to a well taken Eoin Lacey goal reduced the deficit and at half time and trailed by a single point, 0-7 to 1-3, at the interval.  Liam Mellow’s made the better start to the second half and extended the lead by a further 3 points before Taghmon fought to claw back the deficit.  Nicky Cousins equalised with a brilliant first time strike on a pass from Eoin Lacey.  The match could well have been won if Jason Delaney’s last minute effort which hit the post had gone over.  Overall a draw was a fair result and extra time was not played because of the effect of the weather conditions on the pitch.  The full back line of Noel Doyle, Tom O’Gorman and Eoin Morrissey and goalkeeper Eugene McGee played well and prevented any majors.  Derek Breen was good at centre back and Jason Delaney was superb in the middle of the field.  The scorers were Robbie O’Callaghan (0-4, 3 frees), Eoin Lacey (1-0), Nicky Cousins (0-2), Bernard O’Gorman (0-1), Mick O’Gorman (0-1).
