Taghmon/Camross GAA Club Notes, 16 April 2001

Hurling

The ACHL continued this week and both Taghmon/Camross teams were in action. The first team beat Geraldine O’Hanrahan’s B in O’Kennedy Park on Sunday evening by the 3-9 to 2-8. Camross played with the wind in the first half and led by 2-6 to 2-3 at half time thanks to two superb goals by Eddie Cousins.  Early in the second half Martin Coady scored the third goal which was needed as Ross were slowly whittling away the lead with a series of points.  However Camross finished the stronger and were pulling away at the end.  The win was satisfying as several key players were unavailable.  The win was a small measure of revenge against the Ross side who had beaten Taghmon/Camross in Junior B and intermediate relegation matches last year. Scorers for Camross Eddie Cousins (2-0), Dave Bury (0-5, 1 free), Martin Coady (1-0), Robbie O’Callaghan (0-2), Gearoid Kelly (0-2).

On Saturday the second team defeated Naomh Eanna B in Taghmon by 6-8 to 4-4 (HT 2-4 to 2-2).  Many goals were scored and the B team now has 2 wins form 2 played.  The scorers were Dave Bury (1-4), Derek Breen (1-2), Jaimie O’Hanlon (1-1), Eddie Cousins (1-0), Mick O’Gorman (1-0), David Banville (1-0), Joe Doyle (0-1).  For Gorey the scorers were DJ Doyle (2-1), Padraig Cronin (1-3), Joe Breen (1-0).  The next match in 2 weeks is against Clongeen and will offer an opportunity to get one back after the controversial decider of Division 2D last year.

Underage

Taghmon/Camross defeated Gusserane and Rathgarogue-Cushinstown in the Caulfield underage hurling league.
