Hurling

The championship campaign for the first hurling team resumed on Saturday at Oylegate against Clonee after a lay-off since May. The team won by 3-12 to 0-3 (HT 2-3 to 0-2). The game was played in wet blustery conditions and Clonee had benefit of the wind blowing diagonally across the field in the first half. Clonee scored the first point but only led for a few minutes before this was more than cancelled by a goal from Darren Colfer. Dave Bury added another goal before halftime. The third goal came in the second half when a long range free from Eoin Lacey went under the bar. The scorers were Eoin Lacey (1-6, 0-1 from play), Dave Bury (1-2, 1 free), Darren Colfer (1-1), Robbie O’Callaghan (0-2, 1 free), Derek Breen (0-1). The team may be playing in the county quarter final this weekend against opposition drawn on Monday evening, although with Wexford’s draw yesterday a fixture for Saturday is unlikely.

The junior B footballers play the New Ross district semifinal against Gusserane this evening (Wednesday).
