Taghmon/Camross GAA Club Notes, 26 November 2001

U-21 Football

The U-21 footballers had a comfortable win by 2-15 to 2-3 against Monageer-Boolavogue in the county semi-final in St Patrick’s Park on Saturday. This outcome did not look likely at half-time when the match was tied 0-8 to 2-2. Monageer scored 2 early goals and Taghmon shooting was poor. The turning point came early in the second half when Shane Fox saved a penalty from county U-21 hurler Trevor Kelly which was followed immediatly by a point for Taghmon who never trailed again. The introduction of substitute Eoin Lacey before half time was also crucial as he ended up top scorer with 2-2. His omission from the starting line-up was hard to fathom. The scorers were Eoin Lacey (2-2), Adrian Morrissey (0-7, 4 frees), Lloyd Colfer (0-4), Eoin Morrissey and John Kavanagh (0-1 each).

Hurling League

Taghmon-Camross B won ACHL 2-C with a hard grafted win by 0-11 to 0-7 over Raparees C on Sunday in Adamstown (HT 0-6 to 0-5). There were good performances from many players but especially Martin Coady, Dave Bury and Nicky Cousins. The club especially acknowledges Nicky’s dedication. He missed the Leinster Badminton semi-final in Dublin to make the match and received a cut above the eye for his trouble. The win made up for the disappointing defeat to Clongeen in last years division 2D final and the junior footballers loss in ACFL 2B last week. The scorers were Dave Bury (0-5, frees), Nicholas Cousins, Martin Coady and Eoin Lacey (0-2 each).

The first team plays Geraldine O’Hanrahan’s in Grantstown on Saturday at 2:00 pm in the final of ACHL 2A. It is now 2 years in a row that both hurling teams have gained promotion in the ACHL. This is bound to help bring on hurling in the club.
