Zucchero was born Adelmo Fornaciari on September 25, 1955 in Italy. Zucchero, whose name means "sugar," began his musical endeavors while training to be a veterinary surgeon and was taught to play guitar. His music career playing began with other bands in the 70s throughout Italy including Le Nouve Luci, Sugar & Daniel, and Sugar & Candies. Zucchero's music and songwriting talents eventually led him to enter the 80s as a solo star ready to become internationally known.
Zucchero released his debut LP, Un Po' Di Zucchero in 1983. Over the course of the early 80s, Zucchero performed live around the world as his fan base and record sales continued to grow.
In 1985, Zucchero released Zucchero & The Randy Jackson Band and in 1986 Rispetto was released. The release of Blue's in 1987 resulted in the biggest selling LP in Italy's history with sales topping 1 million and Zucchero becoming a superstar. A year later, in 1988, Zucchero composed the music for the film Snack Bar Budapest.
With the release of Oro Incenso e Birra in 1989, more focus on a blues influence was evident with a guest appearance by Eric Clapton on the LP. Zucchero and Clapton collaborated once again when they performed together for several concerts. The same year, Zucchero recorded "Senza Una Donna (Without A Woman)" with Paul Young and had a big success on the British charts and released Zucchero.
In April, Zucchero appeared at the Freddy Mercury Tribute concert in London and released Live At The Kremlin. In October, Zucchero released Miserere which included a duet with Luciano Pavarotti. Zucchero was presented with a World Music Award for the "Year's Most Successful Italian Singer."
Zucchero was the only European artist to perform at Woodstock '94.In May, Zucchero released Spirito Di Vino. He was also named the "World's Best Selling Italian Artist of the Year."Toward the end of the year, Zucchero released The Best Of Zucchero Sugar Fornaciari's Greatest Hits which included 3 new tracks. The LP hit #1 hit Italy and France.
Zucchero also won another World Music Award for the "Year's Most Successful Italian Singer." In April, Zucchero appeared at the benefit concert for the Rainbow Foundation in New York and performed "Va' Pensiero" which was also available on the benefit compilation LP, Carnival. Zucchero released Blue Sugar in November.
