Lundy Foods got
off to a flying start, leading
the away team from the tip,
getting a 6-0 run in the first 2
minutes of play. After that
Lundy's never looked back at the
trailing Crescent team. While Crescent
were big in the post they didn't
box out enough allowing Paul
Freeman, one of the new recruits
to the Lundy team, to pull down
27 boards on the night, 13 of
those offensive and put 10 back
into the basket. At the end of
the second quarter the score was
36-22 to Lundy foods, although
this scoreline didnt exactly
reflect the dominence of Lundy
Foods.
After the interval the travelling
team seemed more focussed and
began to move the ball more
efficiently. An end was put to
this by the excellent hustling
shown by Padraic Roche, another
young player in his first season
in Division 1. He took charge and
ran the break leaving gaping
holes for his team mates to score.
Benefiting most of all from this
was Gearoid Leonard, scoring 13
points. Crescent tried hard to
come back into the game but were
stopped time and time again
inside by Paul Freeman, with 8
blocks. Crescent reverted to
their outside shooting of Brian
Carmody, who scored two three
pointers despite being closely
guarded. It was ultimatly to no
avail as Lundy Foods won out with
a final score of 73-42. Other
players worth mentioning: Enda
Morrison (Crescent) who scored 11
points, followed by John O'Dowd
who scored 6 points for the away
team. Martin Wynne, another new
Lundy Foods underage player, who
came on the court for the first
time last night with 5 mins left
on the clock and chalked up 9
points from the fast break. A
good first victory of the season
for Lundy Foods. |
