COMMENTS PAGE THE VIEWS EXPRESS HERE ARE FROM INDIVIDUALSAND NOT NECESSARLY THE VIEWS OF GSE 25 July 2000 > Thanks for your continued updates on the Waste Mgmt Plan. It is indeed good news. I would just comment as follows: The present Minister for the Environment is in power 3 years now and in that time we have not seen the slightest improvement in waste reduction - not one less plastic bag in supermarkets, not even one alternative bag availabe at supermarkets, not one extra bottle bank and the few that are there are miles away. There is not one place to bring waste paper never mind have it collected. It breaks my heart every week to put all my rubbish, unsorted except for bottles, into the bin to be dumped in someone's backyard. But I have no choice. As for the bottles I have to collect them and drive 5 - 7 miles to the nearest bottle bank - very often they are in my car boot for a week! And I have a car - what about the people who don't have transport. Everybody wants a clean environment and they are prepared to work for it if given the resources and leadership from Government. >To all the happy people in Galway! - a very big congragulations. All your hard work paid off. Let's hope it's the first of many. >I'm truly delighted to hear the news - well done! >Congratulations on getting this good result. Here we have TALK about recycling but all the ACTION is towards building incinerators. We are fighting hard. I would be interested to hear if there were any particular tactics that you felt helped to make your campaign successful - anything that we can learn from. >To all concerned a hearty congratulations and well done for an exceptional amount of voluntary work and a well merited result. After the debacle of the waste water scheme which is still not fully resolved your achievement in this case is truly groundbreaking and an example of people power. There is much work to be done in relation to waste disposal. It is unlikely that without legislation we will separate at source so that the separation will have to be undertaken at waste treatment plants and then treat in an anaerobic digester and recycle the solid and organic waste. Keep up the good work. >Greetings and congratulations on a job well done. We must build on this victory. We should meet and have a small celebratory occasion this evening. Let me know if anything is planned. Thank you again for all your great work and I look forward to great things in the months ahead. >I suspect you are still celebrating and may not hear read your e mail for several days. Congratulations to you and all your colleagues. You achieved an excellent result, not just for Galway but all of the country. We heard the News at 1.00 am this morning, travelling back from Portlaoise where we gave a presentation to a group of councillors. We then met with the local action group ( Ms. K. Cussens et al.). Your result will be of great assistance to them. The plan is down for a decision on Monday and last night prior to your decision it didn't look good. Mr. Ruddin and his troops are working very hard to achieve an acceptance and has arranged to meet the councillors over the coming weekend prior to the vote. Please convey our congratulations to your colleagues in particular Joe Jacobson and Conchur. >Congratulations to all of you in the committee for this wonderful success ! I know the war is not over yet and there will be other battles. I'll keep my armour on. I think that you must consider asking for MC O'Sullivan's and possibly Noel Dempsey's removal and must put forward some plan for the recycling effort in Connaught. 12 May 2000 >Great to see this initiative. I'll let my friends know about it. >best web site i have seen i hope it works for you as this was first i had heard of same!!! >I recently saw your ad on 'Stop the incinerator' published in the galway advertiser, 2 friends and I are currenlty doing a project for the Esat Young Scientists competition on Landfills and incinerators and I was wondering if possible you could send me some information on either. >Saw the ad in this weeks Advertiser. Do you have any further info on the campaign against the proposed incinerator? I am interested in supporting this campaign. >Just a quick note to congratulate you on your very effective website. A section on sewage waste management would be great too, or indeed a discussion group. Keep up the good work! >I think that the planned Waste Management Seminar on the 31st March at 10am is not a very convenient time for a working member of the public to attend and intent to tell Joe Gavin so. Will GSE be amongst the panel of experts ? I will make every effort and I expect to be there. >I fully support your campaign. Keep up the good work. >If you need any help with the campaign let me know, as this is my realm of business, having spent over 20 years in the Environmental and Waste Business. I know all about incinerators, got lots of stuff on it. The key is the "Dioxin" Levels, there is no known safe emission level and lots of this come out of them despite 3-6 second afterburners being fitted. You cannot incinerate the following Cans Bottles Cardboard The glass just congeles into a lump and the cardboard rips the linings out of the stacks because of the way it is made, making it a very expensive Incinerator to operate. >I feel that people outside the City Boundary should be made more aware of the major health problems with this INCINERATOR. I think should try to involve more people from the outer towns and country as majority of these people works here in our city which means they receive the same problems as ourselves. >#351 - 'Wall Street Journal' Warns Its Readers: Incinerators Are Financial Disasters, August 19, 1993
