Irish Sports Acrobatics and Irish Amature Gymnastics Merge to become 'Irish Gymnastics'

On July 1st 1999, the Irish Sports Acrobatics Federation was merged with the Irish Amature Gymnastics Association and has now become know as 'Irish Gymnastics'. This merger was brought about due to the merger of IFSA into FIG and had to be done in order for Irish Acrobats to be allowed to compete in World title events. Also the Irish Sports Council has put presure on federations within Ireland to become merged as one.

Both the ISAF and IAGA are due to gain alot due to this merger. The ISAF needed this merger for the obvious reasons as being kept in the world events. Also they would gain the support of a larger organisation. The IAGA were to gain a lot, as Sports Acrobatics is a very attractive discipline and is attracting new gymnasts. Also Sports Acrobats can go on to a much older age. Some male bases go well into their 30's. It will also mean more money for both federations as it has been encouraged by the Sports Council of Ireland.

Communication between our federations has grown enormously and is very beneficial for both. We can see what is happening with all other disciplines and we can all keep in good contact.
