Hurling

St John's v St Canice's

May 25th
St. Johns Park
St. Canices 4-6 St. Johns 2-4
Master Mason hits Johns for 4!!
The scoreline might look like this was an easy victory, but ask any of the hurlers in action today and they will tell you how difficult this really was.
We led by 0-5 to 0-3 at half time having played with a stiff wind in the first half and our backs were definitely to the wall! We mixed good hurling with some mediocre hurling in this period and a better effort was called for in the second half.
Whoever else listened to the half time team talk, Mason Clifford definitely did. Exactly two and a half minutes into the new half, the full forward had unbelievably hammered home three goals- an incredible feat and surely a record of note. Not only that but when the John's lads were putting up a fiery comeback and had closed the gap to 5 points, who should turn up to score his fourth goal but that man again.
This was our first real testing game for quite a while and it took some players a while to get used to hurling in "the fast lane". This game will undoubtedly prepare us for a tough quarter final game next week.
Others to perform to a high standard today were Sam Johnson in goal, Sean Treacy and Evan Guilfoyle in defence, Aidan Nolan, Cillian Buckley, Peter Vickery and Gerry Walsh further up the field.
