We regard homework as important for
several reasons: |
1. It is a useful discipline. |
2. It gives children a necessary
opportunity to revise work done in class. |
3. It is essential for children to
commit certain facts to memory e.g. tables, spelling, poems, prayers and it is
important that these should be revised regularly at home as directed by the
teacher. |

Parents can help their child
by: |
1. Reminding him/her to do his
homework at a suitable time not at bedtime. |
2. Providing a suitable place
where the child can work away from distraction of TV etc. |
3. Checking the written homework
each night to ensure it is neat and tidy. |
4. Listening to oral work -
spellings, tables, reading. |
5. Each child has a special
homework journal. You can help by ensuring that each item listed is carefully
done. It is most important that any oral work given is done, as children often
feel that it is enough to do written work and " hope for the best" in regard to
oral work or memory work. |
6. Homework journals should be
signed by a parent at least once a week and any comment or message written by
the teacher noted. Individual teachers may ask for journals to be signed each
night. We would ask you to comply with this request. In the event of homework
not done, a note of explanation should be sent to the teacher. |
7. The following is a rough
estimate of the maximum time which your child should spend on his/her
assigned homework: |
1st class - 20 minutes |
2nd class - 30 minutes |
3rd class - 45 minutes |
4th class - 1 hour |
5th class - 1.15 hours |
6th class - 1.30 hours |
