Night at the Dogs

Wow, what a fantastic night! Everyone felt like a winner, maybe not on the track but after a night full of great company, great crack and for some, great odds, we all left with a winning smile. Some of our younger punters were so worn out by the excitement that they slept all the way home. Speaking of winners we're delighted to announce that the Buster race was won by a past pupil of the school, Paul Begley. But the real winners as we all know are our children - they are the ones we do it all for. So with them in mind we'd like to take this opportunity to say a massive THANK YOU to all who supported our night and for helping to make it the success it was. For those, who for whatever reason couldn't make it to the track on the night, never fear there's always next year!
Thanking you for your continued support.

Night at the Dogs
Harold's Cross Greyhound Stadium
Friday 12th March 2010

As I'm sure you are very much aware we have had major Department of Education cuts in recent budgets and so we are endeavouring to raise some of the shortfall these cuts have left us with to ensure the least possible impact on your children. The Parents Association have organised Holy Family N.S. Rathcoole's "Night at the Dogs" which promises to be an exciting family night full of thrills and hopefully wins!!!
Friday 12th March 2010 at Harold's Cross Greyhound Stadium is where the fun is at. It will be a great opportunity for you as parents to get together with family and friends and enjoy the excitement a night at the races brings while also supporting a worthy cause i.e. your children. All money raised will be used to purchase educational materials for the school and fund computer and music classes etc.
We are so grateful for all the support you have given to our previous fundraising events and while we do appreciate this is a hard time for all we are confident that with your continued support this venture will be an outstanding success while promising to be an entertaining fun night out for all the family (Grans and Granddads too).
There are many ways that you as parents can help to make this event a financial success.
  • Joining in the fun - Easiest way of all. Tickets for the night are €15 per adult and €3 for children. Buses will be leaving the Poitin Stil and Jacob's Lounge at 6:30 sharp at a return fare of €5 per adult and €3 per child (see enclosed flier). It is a Friday night-no excuses!! - Tickets available from the school.
  • Buying a Buster Ticket - In conjunction with the races there will be a Buster draw with a cash prize of €500, couldn't we all do with that. The tickets are €10 and limited to 350 therefore increasing your chance of being that winner!!! So maybe if you can't attend the event you can still support us by being in the Buster Draw.
  • If you have contact with a local business you might use your influence to persuade them to advertise in the race programme or possibly sponsor a race. Enclosed you will find a list of the adverts/sponsorship deals available which as you will see also includes a very tempting corporate package.

Sounds like an ideal night out to kick off St Patrick's week-end, wouldn't you agree? So if you fancy a flutter please show us your support by making the real winners the children.

Safe Parking

We the Parent's Association, having received numerous complaints from parents on this issue, would like to express our concern about the level of illegal and unsafe parking at the school both during morning drop-off and afternoon collection. There is an accident just waiting to happen where one of our children will be seriously injured or worse still killed due to lack of consideration shown during this busy time.

In the interest of safety and traffic management the Gardai have had additional road markings put in place - double yellow lines where parking is prohibited and zigzag lines on approaching the school entrance.

Here are some very simple small rules that will go a long way to ensuring the safety of our children.

1 . Do Not Park where double yellow lines exist.
2. Do Not Park on the footpath.
3. Do Not Park where it obstructs pedestrian, as those with buggies are being forced onto the road to pass cars.
4. Do Not Park where you are blocking a driveway.
5. Do Not Park Or Stop at either of the entrance gates to the school.
6. Do Not Park Or Stop on the zigzag lines outside the school.
7. Do Not Park Or Stop where it obstructs the School Warden's view of oncoming traffic.

All of the above are actual "rules of the road" and are upheld by the law.

For those of us who have to drive our children to school there is ample legal safe parking within short walking distance from the school.

Please Do Park in these legal safe parking spaces but most of all
Please Do keep all our children safe!!!
