James's other son, Charles James, early in 1885 bought, or was given, a farm at
Hlobane that included the Hlobane mountain in its boundaries. This farm has
(had) vast coal deposits and Charles made most of his money from mining the
substance and hauling it to Vryheid.
I saw an official valuation of the farm (Vrede/Cliffdale) from Charles' estate
papers (in Salt Lake City) which noted the fact of the mountain being within
the borders of the farm. The farm was split up upon Charles' death and two of
his sons continued to farm the properties. By that time the mineral rights had
been sold off, probably to some mining operation.

William Joseph moved to Amersfoort/Barbeton in the Vaal where he
had a trading company with an associate called Brown and Mossop. His son farmed
near Amersfoort (where my sister-in-law was born) and then moved the family to
Marandellas in Rhod, where she married my brother. They are farming in Malawi,
where they have been for some 30 plus years..
