The hovercraft is near Carrickmacross in
Co. Monaghan, Ireland. It would make a good project for someone
wanting to build their own craft and use this one for parts. All the
mechanical parts, belts, pulleys, fan shaft, blades, engine frame, duct
are in perfect working order, except the engine needs a little work
Yes its a little bit dusty! |
HULL / SKIRT / STEERING / DUCT
The hull is plywood covered with epoxy. The skirt is made of 68 individual segments, made from neoprene coated nylon. The steering system is a torque rod connected to handlebars with ball links. The Duct is 850mm diameter in white polyester fibreglass |
ENGINE
The engine is a Yamaha RD 250 D engine (1979 aircooled). It is mounted on a specially made subframe. New crank bearings, piston bearings, and new rods have been fitted in the last year. Totally new electrics cdi system (worth 250 euros). Starting pulley has been fitted to the flywheel, it works well for starting. 4 weeks ago, I blew a hole in one of the pistons, so the barrels need rebored and new piston kits fitted. I guarantee that the engine runs if that work is undertaken. At the moment, I have stripped the top of the engine so you can bring the barrels and pistons for reboring. No parts are missing! |
This shows the brand new coils and spark plug leads fitted |
This is a brand new spare coils/cdi (black boxes) and regulator(silver box) set, never used. These ones look different because the cdi and the coil are combined in each black unit. |
TRANSMISSION
This is the crankshaft pulley, crank adapter and belt. The crank pulley is brand new (3 months ago). The toothed belt is in good condition. |
The fan pulley, bearings, and shaft are like new. The fan hub is a 9 blade hub (rotates anticlockwise), comes with spare blades |
BOOKS
Includes 2 books, "Haynes Yamaha RD250 Manual" and "Hovercraft Constructors Guide" |
