    SLIGO WEB CLOSING DOWN
    The Sligo Web at www.sligoweb.com is closing down on the 10th of August. This is to allow for a new version of the No.1 Web site for Sligo to be uploaded and tested live.

    To celebrate this event, there will be some new features added to the Web site The Sligo Web, such as a new monthly competition, with prizes such as a Digital Camera, Authentic Blarney Luckstones', and much much more.

    The new design will make navigation easier, and provide you with much more information and images of Sligo to view at your leasure.

    So do not forget to mark the 15th of August, as this is the date the New and Improved Web site is to be launched.

      THE LAND NO ONE WANTS


    A ten acre site at Cleverage, in Sligo has been offered for sale as a prime site for development of a hotel, leisure and conference centre.

    The Sligo Corporation's administration officer, Mr. John O'Dwyer, told a meeting of Sligo's Borough Council that the closing date for tenders had passed and not a single offer had been made.

    The Corporation had also sought development proposals for the remainder of Cleveragh Estate comprising of about 220 acers.

    BREE ELECTED CHAIRMAN OF LABOUR COUNCILLORS


    Alderman, Declan Bree has been elected as chairman of the National Association of Labour Councillors.

    At it's annual conference held in the Mansion House, in Dublin, Alderman Bree was unanimously selected as chairman of the organisation, which acts as an umbrella group for Labour Party representatives on City and County Councils, Borough Councils, Urban District Councils and Town Commissions.

    The Leader of the Labour Party, Mr. Ruairi Quinn T.D., who addressed the Conference congratulated Alderman Bree and paid tribute to his work record in local government.

    A new tourist service was launched this week, Discover Sligo Tours provide a door to door service of the "land of hearts desire", with poetry, history, legends, traditional music, and plenty of time to take in the wonder of Sligo, a county just waiting to be descovered.

    The new luxury Discover Sligo minibus calls at Markree Castle, Sligo Park Hotel, The Tourist Office and the Yeats Country Hotel at Rosses Point.
