                                Probes for CNC Lathes

Probes for CNC Milling Machines

Probes for CNC milling machines fall in to two categories, they can either be spindle mounted for job set-up & inspection, or table mounted for toolsetting. Toolsetters can be either a contact system such as the TS27R, or a non-contact system such as the NC1 laser.

Toolsetting

The toolsetting probe can set both tool length & diameter. The sequence of events is fully automatic under CNC control. The tool is brought down toward the stylus, when contact is made, the value is automatically stored in the appropriate tool offset register of the CNC, no values have to be entered manually.

In-cycle tool breakage detection can also be carried out.

Large shell mills are rotated backwards when contacting the stylus, & hence the value of the highest tooth is stored.

In the case of the non-contact NC1 system the form of the cutter or the tip radius can also be measured.

Job set-up & Inspection

The spindle probe can be used for both job set-up & finished component inspection

The accompanying probe software enables many different features to be used for measurement or datumming purposes.

Key Benefits

  • Highly accurate, repeatable set-up will reduce your scrap rates.
  • Minimises your non-productive machine time, allows more time for cutting metal.
  • Broken tool detection allows for safer "lights out" and unmanned operation.
  • No requirement for expensive alignment fixtures, the probe will locate the part for you & compensate for any misalignment.
