Saturn

The second largest of the gas giants, Saturn possesses a feature unique in the solar system-its spectacular rings. Saturn is about 85% percent the size of Jupiter but twice as far from Earth, which makes Earth-based observation difficult. As with Jupiter, highly detailed images and data had to await exploration of Saturn by robotic probes. These have revealed the complex nature of its rings, high-velocity winds in its atmosphere, and new information about its 18 moons.
